The folks at the C-SPAN network have put out a nice report on the hotly contested AR-01 House race between Democrat (and BHR endorsee) Chad Causey and Republican Rick Crawford. The piece runs about six minutes (sixx minutes?), and features footage from the campaign trail, interviews with both candidates, and analysis from Talk Business’s Roby Brock. Brock recently reported that the Causey campaign “has cut into Crawford’s lead and appears to be gaining some traction and momentum” in the campaign’s final weeks, but adds that “Crawford has to be heartened that he’s weathered a blistering barrage of attacks and remains in the lead.”
An Oct. 14 TB poll had the race at 42-34% for Crawford (with a whopping 20% remaining undecided).
UPDATE: The two candidates met for their second debate on Monday night in Jonesboro, with the two mostly trading jabs on the same issues we have heard throughout this race — Causey stepped up his criticism of Crawford’s support of a flat tax and “turning Social Security into a welfare program,” while Crawford continued his narrative of Causey as the D.C.-insider who will do the bidding of the “Obama/Pelosi agenda.” KAIT Channel 8 has the footage. The two will square off for a third and final debate on Thursday at ASU.
I just couldn’t pull the lever for Causey. In the end, he just does not seem REAL. Bebee is REAL. Mike Ross and Vic Snyder are real. David Cook is REAL. These men may not be right about every issue, but when they speak, I believe they are talking to me from their heart. Causey is not Ross, Snyder, Berry, or Cook. I like a lot of what Causey says, but I don’t believe him when he says it. Maybe it’s just a gut feeling. But I just could not vote for him.

You raise an interesting point that I’ve been meaning to address vis-a-vis Beebe. Namely: knowing what you are getting from Beebe (which is far from anything I would describe as liberal, at least in the modern sense), what is it about him that makes so many Dems willing to pull the lever for him? Is it that Dems here are far more conservative than all but the most liberal are willing to admit, or is it that Beebe’s “realness” for lack of a better term causes people to trust him and vote for him when they would not otherwise be so willing?

Interesting. I am also a declared candidate in this race, and on the ballot, and yet was not invited by KAIT to participate in the debate. I watched it though, and heard almost word-for-word the same pat answers given by both those candidates as they gave at the AETN debates. Chad Causey has never been handed anything, except his talking points it seems, and Rick Crawford thinks that the recently passed healthcare legislation is the end of civilization as we know it. I would vote for just about anybody but either of these gentlemen. Even me.

Oh, and I am invited to the debate at ASU, and will be there. Should be entertaining.
